Yesterday I returned to The Cake Gallery in Bowdon. At one time I used to go often, as it is literally on my doorstep, but I have just been so busy of late!
But when I arrived, I remembered why I like to come here so much. It really is a lovely and bright coffee shop.
The menu may be limited, but they have a very good selection of unusual sandwich fillings. My favourite by far is: Halloumi, spinach and sweet chilli on a toasted ciabatta. I drool just thinking about it. Yesterday I also tried the soup of the day, which happened to be to tomato and chickpea. It was delicious – nice and hearty!
My friend had the goats cheese, onion, spinach and chilli jam version which she said was delightful. But don’t discount the mushroom, cheese and onion ciabatta either, it is incredibly tasty too. It is definitely my fall back option when they’ve sold out of my favourite
But of course, not everyone goes for lunch. I think most people go for cake. Their cakes are simply brilliant. I have tried a wide selection over time, and I think my favourites are their lemon drizzle cake, coffee and walnut cake, raspberry and cream cheese cupcakes as well as chocolate cupcakes topped with a Malteser. I generally bring home a cake for my husband too: all nicely and securely packaged.
They have recently opened on Sundays too, however I have to admit to not ever going on Sunday. I would imagine that they would be well supported by church-goers from St Mary’s across the Street on a Sunday.
Unfortunately they don’t offer breakfasts, so no Eggs Benedict to report back on.
If you need to contact then, or just fancy popping in and seeing it for yourself, The Cake Gallery is opposite The Griffin and St Mary’s Bowdon at:
